A nautical licence is obligatory for drivers of all mechanically driven craft having engine/s output of 30HP and over.

- Within 200 meters from rocky shores
- Within 300 meters from sandy beaches in all ports
- The speed limit in marinas is of 3 knots

For S-registered crafts, the renewal of the insurance should be done first and it needs to be presented to Transport Malta.
